Save Our Irish Waters
Lough Derg 📸 by LudramanThere's no protecting a waterway on our own. The great and winding rivers of Ireland if laid out in a straight line would circle the Earth twice over.
Protecting Our Irish Waters is about working together locally and nationally to keep our waters healthy for ourselves and for biodiversity.
Save the Boyne volunteers worked diligently and committedly to demonstrate that it IS possible for neighbors to protect their local waterways.
Save Our Irish Waters seeks to be one of many voices working together to save, heal and protect the waters for future generations.

What’s Happening?
The Shannon
Our longest river, the Shannon, Source to Sea, is 13 catchments long with an incredible diversity of needs. How can we take a better view of the Shannon holistically? Irish Times Article: Let’s be ambitious for a plan to establish a real record of the majestic Shannon’s condition. The Shannon is under considerable pressure from a variety of sources both natural and industrial, not the least of which is the proposed Water Supply Project Eastern and Midlands Region - aka - the Shannon Pipeline Project seeking to extract water from Parteen Basin to meet water supply demands in Dublin and for new housing infrastructure across the country.

Cork Rivers Alliance
Here is a sample of links to stories around the country. In addition to better known Rivers Trusts, we know there are hundreds, maybe thousands of people across Ireland working for safe water and to protect our living systems. This is just a start.
Cork has an abundance of rivers and waterways from the An Laoi (River Lee) to the Bandon, the Sullane, and the Bride. The Rivers Alliance works behind the scenes for our rivers and wildlife.
